Music for the Spring Season
On June 13, seniors were treated to a Spring Concert & Conversation, the second in the Music for the Seasons series, held at DOROT and sponsored by The Ades/Taub Family Foundation.
(l-r) Joan Ades, Krysty Swann, Earl Buys, Tricia Suriani
The program, entitled “An Afternoon of Opera,” offered an array of arias performed by mezzo–soprano Krysty Swann, accompanied by Earl Buys on piano. Singing without a microphone, Ms. Swann easily reached the elders seated in the rear of the auditorium with her luminous renditions of classics such as “Habanera” from Carmen and “Amour! viens aider ma faiblesse!” from Samson & Delilah. For her encore, Ms. Swann introduced soprano Tricia Suriani, a close friend and fellow alumna of the Manhattan School of Music, to sing a duet with her from The Tales of Hoffman. In between songs, Ms. Swann answered questions from her knowledgeable and very engaged audience, including inquiries about her path to becoming an opera singer and her future plans.
DOROT is grateful to Joan and Alan Ades, who initiated this popular concert series.
