Still Performing Their Service

Linking the Generations
Among the veterans gathering at DOROT to serve their community on 9/11 was Robin Willis (back row, second from left), a veteran of the U.S. Air Force whose design for a DOROT commemorative card to be sent to first responders and military personnel was selected from hundreds submitted nationwide. Marking the 12th anniversary of 9/11, veterans, DOROT seniors and volunteers united in an act of service to the community. Members of the Jewish War Veterans joined Rabbi Moshe Grussgott and James Young (both chaplains in the armed services), U.S. Air Force veteran Robin Willis, employees of the Zinio Corporation and DOROT office volunteers to pack hundreds of food packages for delivery to homebound seniors this coming Sunday. The packing event was one of several commemorative activities in DOROT’s 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance initiative, which unites volunteers and seniors in a nationwide effort to reflect on the day.

Other events include a special 9/11 dinner at DOROT’s homeless facility prepared and served by volunteers from the PIMCO Foundation and DOROT’s Sukkot Package Delivery and 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sunday, September 15.
