Marketing and Development Associate

Position Description Summary: Working closely with the Chief Development Officer and the Director of Foundation and Corporate Giving, the Marketing and Development Associate creates marketing materials and implements DOROT's marketing strategy. The Associate is responsible for writing grant proposals and reports for foundations and corporations, and assists DOROT staff with writing and editing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create, proofread, and edit various agency printed and electronic marketing materials
  • Create and disseminate press releases
  • Write speeches for events
  • Write news articles and media relations materials including letters to the editor and op-ed pieces
  • Write and edit for DOROT’s website and social media
  • Serve as the primary writer and editor for DOROT’s Generations Newsletter, fundraising appeals, personal solicitation letters, donor acknowledgments, and direct mail appeal
  • Write and edit grant proposals, foundation reports, and other funding correspondence both independently and in collaboration with program managers
  • Track grants, due dates, and maintain electronic and hard copy foundation files
  • Conduct prospect and demographic research on foundations in line with DOROT’s mission and goals
  • Generate financial information, budgets, and financial reports for proposals and reports, in collaboration with program and finance staff
  • Become a subject matter expert in the areas of aging and social isolation
  • Other duties as assigned by Director or CDO

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • Two or more years of professional writing and editing experience, including grant writing
  • Experience in the field of marketing preferred.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector a plus
  • Interest in the field of aging, human services, and development preferred
  • Must demonstrate creativity and passion in their writing
  • Must have or gain comprehensive understanding of programs and be able to glean information from previous proposals to meet specific funder requirements

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Must work quickly and be able to produce a polished piece of work needing little editing
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent MS Office 2010 skills
