9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance
Homelessness Prevention Program
DOROT’s Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) provides homeless older adults with transitional housing, kosher meals, counseling and case assistance, and relocates them into safe, affordable and permanent housing. The HPP’s Aftercare component offers resettled seniors continued support and assistance with benefits, food and services to ensure that they never become homeless again.
TWO WAYS TO MARK 9/11 DAY OF SERVICE AND VOLUNTEER TO ASSIST THE HPP
- A special way to engage your business, corporation, synagogue or group of friends to give service on 9/11 is to sponsor, prepare and serve a dinner at the HPP facility on 9/11/13 to current residents and Aftercare clients. Sponsorship is a $900 donation to cover the cost of the food and paper supplies. We need 5–7 volunteers to help set–up, serve dinner and socialize with about 35–40 seniors. Time commitment is from 5–7:30 PM. For more information please contact Judith Turner, Director of Volunteer Services, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Donate items for the HPP “giveaway day” on 9/15/13 for residents and Aftercare clients. Bring donated items to DOROT on Sunday, September 15th during the Package Delivery Program from 10 AM–noon. Volunteers can also contact the office and arrange to drop off items the week of September 9, 2013. For large furniture items, arrangements can sometimes be made for pick–up.
