Cathy Dietz — Card Making project
DOROT volunteer since: October 2010
How did you get involved with DOROT?
I learned of DOROT through the VolunteerMatch.org website.
Rho G., a family member from New York, was fighting her way through a bone marrow transplant and I wanted to honor her and help the seniors of New York. That is when I began my service at DOROT. As a fellow nurse I knew she would appreciate the service in her honor. She did and is doing well.
What type of volunteer activities do you do?
I have spent thousands of hours developing greeting cards. Most of the birthday cards are custom in design and verse.
In what ways has your DOROT volunteer experience impacted your life?
There is nothing better than matching your talents with a service need.
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
My creative efforts are needed and appreciated.
Most memorable volunteer moment?
I was asked to prepare card samples to guide other volunteers in creating cards to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11th. These cards were distributed in packages delivered to seniors during DOROT’s 9/11 Day of Service and Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery. It was very rewarding to create these special cards for the DOROT seniors.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
Volunteering is an enriching experience. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by this very well–organized caring group of DOROT volunteers.
