Eleanor Taub — Card Making Project
DOROT volunteer since: 2003
How did you get involved with DOROT?
I found out about DOROT on VolunteerMatch.ORG.
What type of volunteer activities do you do?
The Card Making Project. One of my cards is featured on DOROT’s website!
In what ways has your DOROT volunteer experience impacted your life?
I love doing it and I’m happy people like it. The people who receive the cards are very grateful but it’s also like occupational therapy for me. I have it in my schedule and I make about 35–40 cards a month. I use calendar pictures and cut them to size and print the words in different colors to match the pictures.
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
I’m retired and have a lot of free time. By making these cards, I feel as if I am reaching out to others in a very positive way.
Most memorable volunteer moment?
When someone from DOROT called me and told me that a senior in Florida received my card and thought it was so beautiful that she was going to put it up on her fridge.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
It’s a very worthwhile place to volunteer. They show a lot of appreciation for what you do. I have volunteered for other organizations on a virtual basis and my contributions were never acknowledged. I always get a friendly e–mail from DOROT when they receive my cards.
I have enjoyed this very much and love doing it. It gives me an opportunity to be and to feel creative.
