Frances Salter - Office Volunteer
How long have you been a DOROT volunteer?
On a consistent basis for the past four years.
How did you get involved with DOROT?
A friend told me about DOROT and I started delivering packages in 2005, and still do.
What type of volunteer activities do you do at DOROT?
I make calls to seniors for the Kosher Meals delivery program, the Wellness program, and anything else that comes up in between.
In what ways has your DOROT volunteer experience impacted your life?
My interaction with all the seniors I am in contact with, and have got to know over the phone, has added a richness to my life I would never have imagined possible. It’s a joy to have conversations with them. They are amazing and have taught me so much.
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
There is a welcoming spirit when one enters the building. Such positive vibes bring me back to DOROT over and over again. A multitude of activities are organized by a very warm and dedicated staff, and I am constantly impressed by the way DOROT is always looking for ways to improve and try out new programs.
Most memorable volunteer moment:
There are too many to mention here!
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
DOROT has created a warm, caring environment that stresses the importance of us all reaching out to a very large community of seniors, many of whom are living alone. I feel not only a responsibility but a desire to continue doing what I do in the hope that I am making a positive difference in the lives I touch, because they are making such a positive effect on mine. I would encourage anyone who is seeking to make a difference in the lives of seniors to volunteer for this unique organization. There is nothing like it anywhere, and I am deeply moved that DOROT is honoring me for something I love to do.
