Caring Calls Offers Conversation and Connection

Nearly 1,000 volunteers and seniors have been paired to date for Caring Calls, DOROT’s new program bringing warmth, conversation and social connection to older adults in isolation due to COVID-19.

O, The Oprah Magazine recommends DOROT’s Caring Calls Programs as something to do!

Volunteers are matched with DOROT elders for phone visits once a week over an eight-week period. The calls take the place of in-home visits that were suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a significant and meaningful opportunity for intergenerational connection and friendship.

“What I enjoy about A. is her confidence and her focus. She brought so much hope. I have learned how to laugh at things. I have also learned that despite being an elder, I could learn things and new ideas. There were times when I received calls and was under the weather, and after the calls I felt renewed.” - DOROT Senior Celestina

If you are an older adult who would like to receive calls from volunteers, please call DOROT at 212-769-2850 or e-mail info@dorotusa.org.
