DOROT welcomes Ellen Marram as the new President of the Board of Directors.
“Ellen will help guide DOROT during and into a post-pandemic world,” said Mark L. Meridy, Executive Director. “While our society will no doubt face new social, political and economic challenges, the issue of social isolation and loneliness will only intensify as our population ages. Our work demands people of the caliber of Ellen, both in terms of commitment and talent, to address this looming public health crisis.”
Marram has served as a member of the Board of Directors of DOROT since 2009. She has chaired DOROT’s Program Committee, served on the Finance and Executive Committees, and led two strategic planning initiatives.
The former President and CEO of the Nabisco Biscuit Company and The Tropicana Beverage Group, Marram is an experienced board leader and director and has served on a number of large and small public and private non-profit boards. She is the Chairman of Newman’s Own Inc., the food company that donates all profits to the Newman’s Own Foundation. She serves on the Newman’s Own Foundation board as well as the boards of Wellesley College, Lincoln Center Theater, New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Harvard Club of New York City.
“We are living in a time that is stretching all of us in ways we never thought possible,” said Marram. “DOROT has risen to the challenge and has grown tremendously during this process. I’ve been impressed with the resiliency of the staff, adapting programs quickly and doing frontline work for older adults who could have easily slipped through the cracks. It is critical work.”
