This talk focuses on Jewish artists selected from the permanent collection who work, or worked, in modernist styles to portray religious subjects. Ranging from complete abstraction focusing on mysticism to figurative, expressionistic depictions of rabbinical archetypes and biblical figures. The works span the first half of the nineteenth century to the present, exploring how Jewish artists interpret the aesthetic and cultural legacy of religious art through their own unique view.
