Friendly Visiting: Next Steps
Through Friendly Visiting, you’ll be matched with a volunteer for weekly or monthly visits in your home. You’ll share interests, life experiences, and more while creating a bond that enriches both your lives.

How the program works
Friendly Visiting is an opportunity to make a new friendship that will enrich your life and the life of a volunteer. When you contact us about the program, we’ll arrange a time for a social worker to visit you at home and get to know you. Our team will then carefully match you with a volunteer based upon common interests, shared hobbies, and more.
Once you’re matched with a volunteer, you and your friend will enjoy weekly or monthly visits at your home. A DOROT social worker will be there to support you for the duration of the relationship. This is a hallmark of our program, ensuring you have a trusted source to turn to with questions and feedback—and to share good news.
Friendly Visiting is available to older adults who live in the following areas:
- Manhattan: between 59th and 125th streets on the West Side and between 14th and 96th streets on the East Side
- Westchester: anywhere in Westchester County

My volunteer is young enough to be my daughter but we share so much in common. We are now reading the same books so that we can talk about them. She has been such a blessing in my life.”
