For DOROT Board Member Matt Novack, DOROT’s mission has always felt personal.
Growing up, Matt became increasingly aware of the potential for social isolation in his immediate and extended friends and family. Matt, Abbey, and their siblings endeavor to be strong networks for their family, though they know capacity and time are limited—and that is where DOROT really shines.
Matt first heard about DOROT as he embarked on a UJA board observership journey, which began with a lunch-and-learn led by future fellow board member Barbara Matas. Through that introduction, Matt became a DOROT Board Observer and in 2017 was honored to join the DOROT Board of Directors as a full member. What drew him in? A mission that mirrored his own values and a curiosity about how community organizations create lasting impact.
Since then, DOROT has become a family affair. Matt and his wife Abbey are intentional about teaching their children what it means to bring warmth, kindness, and connection to others. Matt and Abbey are proud that their son Asher has had a lifelong connection, joining the Thanksgiving Banquet as a baby (pictured).
Their deep commitment to DOROT’s mission has inspired Matt and Abbey to offer a generous matching donation of $25,000 to our Spring 2026 digital fundraising campaign.
