Having a little help getting into the community can make a large difference in an older adult’s ability to live independently and safely at home. The Door to Door program offers vital assistance in:
- Getting to medical and wellness appointments for chronic and preventative care
- Doing grocery shopping
- Picking up necessities at the pharmacy or other important venues
- Completing Access-a-Ride re-certifications
- Taking walks outside and enjoying the fresh air
For critical needs, such as groceries and prescriptions, our Travel Companions can complete errands on an elder’s behalf.
The service area for Door to Door Travel Companions is a bit more limited than other DOROT programs. This program is available to older adults who live on Manhattan’s East Side from 59th-96th Streets, and on the West Side from 59th-125th Streets. However, Travel Companions are able to accompany DOROT elders anywhere in Manhattan.
Appointments must be booked a few weeks in advance. They are available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Participating seniors choose and pay for the transportation of their choice.
