About DOROT Support and Discussion Groups

At DOROT, we recognize that each person is resilient. As you have faced changes or had unique experiences, you found a way to navigate them and continue forward. Even so, sometimes you may continue to feel the impact of these challenges or specific circumstances. Our support and discussion groups are here for you.

Through groups that run for six weekly sessions, DOROT provides a safe space both for conversation and for learning new skills and techniques for processing what has happened. Sessions also focus on understanding how to work with what may come in a way that builds your resilience to life events. Each group is facilitated by one or two DOROT social workers and is offered in either a virtual or in-person format, depending on the specific group.

Small Group Size

Our support groups range in size from six to twelve older adults. This ensures there is time for you and other participants to be able to share and learn new skills, understandings, and techniques to build resiliency in moving through your life. Prior to each group, you will have a one-on-one conversation with a DOROT social worker to help determine if what you are looking for and what we offer through these groups is a good fit.

Discussion Groups on Far-Ranging Topics

DOROT also provides facilitated discussion groups on far-ranging topics and experiences, such as Current Events, French, our Men’s Group, and conversations around LGBTQ+ issues. These groups are a great way to practice a skill, learn something new, and meet new people. Discussion groups meet on a regularly scheduled basis, often with the same older adults joining each time, providing an opportunity for ongoing connection.

It offered a chance to be in a small group community with people at a similar time of their lives, to share and learn from each other with expert guidance.
