Aging Alone Together Volunteer

Do you have experience as an educator, author, social worker, mediator, or in another, similar field? Are you looking to volunteer your time and make an impact? Volunteer as an Aging Alone Together® Facilitator!

About the Program

Aging Alone Together (AAT) is a six-week program for adults 60+ who identify as solo agers. Sessions are offered in-person and via Zoom and offer information, resources, and a supportive community.

As a facilitator, you will lead sessions on strengthening social and support networks, preparing your home for aging in place, and considerations for making a move, advance care planning, and legal and financial matters.  

Candidates should have excellent facilitation skills, a commitment to strengths-based learning, and an interest in positive aging. 

About the Volunteer Facilitator Role

Facilitators come from various professions and walks of life. No prior experience in the subject matters of AAT is required. We ask all facilitators have the ability to guide large groups of about 30 participants in person, and 50 – 100 participants online.

Time Commitment: Six weeks for 2 – 2.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the tone for the entire program and deliver the content of each session.  
  • Share relatable anecdotes as they pertain to the topic of the session.
  • Neutrality in values and opinions with an open-minded and accepting mindset.
  • Volunteers who have lived experience as solo agers, or in any aspect of the life planning process are welcome and especially encouraged to join us.
  • Time management skills. 
  • Collaborative skills.
  • Comfort with following a script. 
  • Empathy and comfort in leading conversations with prompts.  
  • Skill in responding and engaging in a compassionate, warm, and life affirming manner. 

Training:

  • Attend a virtual facilitator training: 2 days for 2.5 hours each day.
  • Observe a program in its entirety.
  • Facilitate alongside an experienced facilitator.
  • Post program check in with AAT staff.
