About GENuine Connections for College Students

Through GENuine Connections® for college students, young adults and adults 65+ connect online through weekly workshops to share life experiences and discover the mutual rewards of intergenerational friendship. Each session is led by a trained facilitator and offers a flexible format—some workshops are free-flowing and shaped by the group’s interests, while others explore specific themes. You choose a workshop that speaks to you and sign up for a 3 – 5 week workshop series.

Whether you’re an alum of DOROT’s intergenerational programming or a brand new volunteer, you’re welcome to join us!

Everyone in this program participates as a volunteer, investing time and energy in building an intergenerational community. College students can also inquire about training opportunities to become a paid facilitator within GENuine Connections.

How It Works

You attend an orientation, which gives you the chance to experience what the program is like. You’ll learn more about the program, and we’ll get to know you—this is a way to ensure mutual alignment with goals. After you complete the rest of our process, you can sign up for the workshop(s) that meet your interests and schedule.

You’ll connect each week via Zoom with the same group, a mix of about 24 adults and college students, plus a trained facilitator. Small breakout groups ensure all can participate in a meaningful way. Each session builds on the other, so we ask you to plan to be there for all of them.
