About DOROT’s Graduate Internship Program

Master of Social Work Internship Program

DOROT’s Master of Social Work (MSW) internship offers an immersive, hands-on opportunity for passionate and motivated first- and second-year social work students to engage deeply in the field of aging. Interns become an integral part of one of DOROT’s many dynamic departments, working side-by-side with a highly dedicated and creative professional staff committed to addressing the complex challenges of social isolation among older adults.

Through direct engagement with older adults, intergenerational programming, and community outreach, interns gain invaluable experience in interacting with and providing support to older adults and volunteers, facilitating meaningful connections, and developing innovative interventions that enhance quality of life.

With over 49 years of leadership in the field, DOROT offers a well-structured and enriching internship in a highly respected agency that blends compassionate service with impactful programming. Whether you are working within our Friendly Visiting program, co-facilitating support groups, assisting with resource navigation or survey administration, or contributing to our initiatives, interns leave with a profound understanding of aging services and the nonprofit sector, strengthened clinical and macro skills, and a deep appreciation for the power of human connection across generations.

DOROT currently works with the social work schools at NYU, Columbia, Touro, Hunter, and Fordham. To find out more about the internship with DOROT, contact your social work school Practicum Office.

Pastoral Care Internship

DOROT’s Pastoral Care Internship offers rabbinical students from New York’s seminaries a meaningful opportunity to provide one-on-one spiritual care to older adults while receiving mentorship from an experienced social worker. As part of an interdisciplinary team, interns not only offer emotional and spiritual support but also collaborate with social workers to connect older adults to concrete resources when needed.

In addition to making individual home visits, interns can lead discussions and teach classes for older adults in a variety of settings, including in-person gatherings, Zoom sessions, and DOROT’s University Without Walls telephone-based lifelong learning programs. This immersive experience deepens interns’ pastoral skills and broadens their understanding of aging, end-of-life concerns, and the unique spiritual needs of older adults.

Currently, Pastoral Interns come to DOROT through the Hebrew Union College and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
