Our volunteers are the agents of change in every program DOROT offers. Older adults and others across the generations make the difference, when they choose from a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. During COVID-19, volunteers are lending a hand with office support over the phone and online, knitting for older adults in need, greeting participants in Zoom and phone classes and engaging in intergenerational programs.
Are you an experienced professional eager to share your knowledge? Do you have a passion for helping older adults? DOROT‘s Skill-Based Volunteers teach classes, facilitate discussion groups or serve as guest speakers and entertainers for our on-site special events. Long and short-term opportunities are available. Share your talents and make a meaningful impact.
Knit, crochet and make a difference with other DOROT volunteers! Every two weeks at DOROT, a group of volunteers meets to share tea and cookies, conversation and camaraderie while making blankets, scarves, hats and more for DOROT’s Homelessness Prevention Program.
Share your outgoing personality and your passion for our mission! As an Ambassador, you will speak for DOROT and our programs to older adults and volunteers within and beyond our walls. Greet participants and volunteers at on-site programs. Assist with event orientations. Attend volunteer fairs and community outreach events.
Are you in a career transition, an empty nester, retired? Looking for new experiences and challenges? Bring the knowledge and patience you have developed over the years to DOROT. We seek volunteers ages 65+ for our signature intergenerational programming. As an older adult volunteer, you can share your wisdom and experience with youth through fun and meaningful activities at DOROT.
Spend time with older adults in DOROT’s Homelessness Prevention Program, our transitional residence. Here, New Yorkers who are – or at risk of becoming – homeless receive safe, temporary housing, as well as meals, counseling and assistance in finding a permanent home. Through weekly visits, you can assist with evening meals, technology or weekend group trips and events.
Cook for a cause! Join other volunteers to prepare healthy, delicious meals for older adults who are homeless or facing homelessness at DOROT’s Homelessness Prevention Program, our transitional residence. This program offers safe, temporary housing, as well as meals, counseling and assistance in finding a permanent home.
Looking for a structured volunteer opportunity in a warm and friendly setting? Want to use your administrative skills to support DOROT’s mission? Join us as an office volunteer! We could use your help registering older adults in our programs through phone interactions and data entry.
