Holiday Package Deliveries

Looking for a one-time opportunity to visit with an older adult?

DOROT’s holiday and seasonal package delivery programs bring hundreds of clients and volunteers together to share warmth and companionship on five days throughout the year. Participate in one or more, it’s your choice. Most of these programs take place on Sunday mornings. Volunteers select their preferred location – East Side or West Side in Manhattan, or in Westchester – and arrive at our headquarters between 10:00-11:30am for an orientation and to be matched with an older adult.

Individual volunteers can sign up on their own or with a friend or partner. We welcome adult, college and family volunteers. DOROT also welcomes groups – alumni associations, community service clubs, fraternities, sororities, companies, synagogues, churches, young professionals and many other types of organizations.

The Package Deliveries for calendar year 2020 are:

  • Passover Package Delivery in Manhattan and Westchester – Sunday, March 29, 2020
  • Summer Package Delivery in Manhattan – TBD
  • The 9/11 Day of Service & Rosh Hashanah Package Delivery in Manhattan and Westchester – Sunday, September 13, 2020
  • Thanksgiving Package Delivery in Manhattan – Sunday, November 22, 2020

Here is what volunteers have said about their package delivery experiences:

“At 98 years young, Sophie is full of life and heart. She was thrilled for our visit, and we completely lost track of time as she regaled us with stories from her childhood, growing up in the Bronx in the 1920s. Loved spending time with her.” – Alexandra W.

“Delivering the Passover packages was what I call a ‘WOW’. I cannot remember a better organized volunteer experience. From the greeting on the sidewalk outside of DOROT, to the orientation, registration, assigning of visitation, passing out of packages. That you managed to deliver over 550 meals in a short time was masterful.” – Gabe G.
