Summer & Academic Year Internships for Undergraduate Students
Watch Our Video
Spend a semester or a summer learning about DOROT and engaging with older adults in the community. As a DOROT intern, you will be exposed to the complex issues of aging, and gain experience in all aspects of DOROT’s operations. Each intern has a specific programmatic responsibility in our Supportive Services, Volunteer Services or Evaluation department. Interns visit with older adults in their homes and may also escort them to cultural events, assist with computer use or help with other tasks.
Over the summer, DOROT offers a structured 10- or 11-week program for those willing to make a 4-5 day per week commitment. Academic year internships are designed around students’ class schedules. We work with all students to find opportunities that match your interests, meet your professional goals, or fulfill requirements for class credit.
“I have learned a tremendous amount about aging, improved my communication skills, and gained an appreciation for the elderly” — Rachel, Gerontology Major @ Muhlenberg College
Summer College Internship Description
“DOROT gave me a multi-faceted experience. I got to meet people and learn about their lives, experiences, and stories. My other friends volunteer in hospitals and gaining personal insight into the lives of those being cared for was not fundamental to their experience as it was mine.” — Alona, Pre–Med student @ Hunter College

Local Campus Partnerships
DOROT has active partnerships with many local colleges and universities. One popular activity is our Package Delivery Program where volunteers visit older adults in their homes and bring a care package of holiday treats. These programs take place four times per year and offer a great community service opportunity for individuals or groups.
