Carol Alexander - Homelessness Prevention Program
How long have you been a DOROT volunteer?
Approximately two years.
How did you get involved with DOROT?
I heard about DOROT through the New York Cares website.
What type of volunteer activities do you do at DOROT?
I assist with the weekly Thursday evening communal dinners at the HPP where residents and clients of the Aftercare Program gather as a community.
In what ways has your DOROT volunteer experience impacted your life?
I cannot wait for Thursdays and although I work full time, the Thursday night volunteer DOROT experience is unique and very satisfying!
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
I never know who will be cooking and who will be attending and the variety of my experience and being a part of the program is awesome!
Most memorable volunteer moment:
If I see someone new I try my best to remember their name and make them feel welcome and a meaningful part of the HPP/Aftercare community.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
It is imperative in life - to always give back and for me to feel a sense of belonging and an important part of a cultural/Jewish experience.
