Mara Liebgott - Young Professional Leadership Circle
How long have you been a DOROT volunteer?
I have been a DOROT volunteer for 5 years.
How did you get involved with DOROT?
I became involved with DOROT through my friend, Shira Cohen, who invited me to attend a Young Professional Leadership Council meeting in the fall of 2011.
What type of volunteer activities do you do at DOROT?
I am a member of DOROT’s Young Professional Leadership Circle, YPLC, and Next Dor, DOROT’s next generation board, which advocate for DOROT and work to garner support both financial and otherwise. I have volunteered with Package Deliveries, the Ballet Hispanico Dance Event, the Thanksgiving Banquet, and the Senior Prom.
In what ways has your DOROT volunteer experience impacted your life?
It has allowed me to give back to the community and engage with older adults, who have extraordinary stories.
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
The wonderful older adults motivate me to continue volunteering. I also appreciate the holistic approach DOROT takes to its mission.
Most memorable volunteer moment:
My most memorable volunteer moment was visiting a senior on the UWS and learned that she had worked at my high school, years before I had attended. What a small world! It was truly “generations helping generations” and harvested a friendship by embracing commonalities.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
They should do it! It is well organized, rewarding, and fun.
