Youth Volunteer Programs
DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the elderly by bringing the generations together to build meaningful relationships and understanding. We offer a wide variety of volunteer, internship, service-learning, and after-school programs for students in grades 6–8 and high school, as well as school groups and youth organizations. Young volunteers play a large and crucial part in our programs, helping to improve the lives of seniors through friendly visits, birthday cards, computer training, baking and painting classes, and much more.
All youth volunteer programs require registration and include training sessions. We take great care in matching volunteers with appropriate projects and with older friends to visit.
For more information about any of DOROT’s youth programs, contact our Coordinator for Family, Youth and College Volunteer Services at (212) 769–2850.
Global Youth Service Day
DOROT is a proud recipient of a Youth Service America grant. DOROT served as a 2013 State Farm Lead Agency, organizing New York’s young people to volunteer to assist local elderly. DOROT engaged over 600 youth volunteers beginning on Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service through our culminating event on Global Youth Service Day, April 28, 2013, the world’s largest service event.
