Here is your opportunity to form a special bond with an older adult.
For more than 40 years, DOROT’s Friendly Visiting program has created thousands of meaningful and mutually beneficial friendships between volunteers and DOROT elders.
Volunteers elect to make weekly home visits or monthly home visits with a monthly call. During the visits, volunteers and older adults share conversation, opinions, hobbies, walks in the neighborhood and other experiences. The DOROT social work team matches each older adult and volunteer pair, based upon mutual interests, availability and geographic convenience. Our program model also utilizes DOROT social workers, who provide training and facilitate the relationship providing support to both the volunteer and older adult for the duration of their relationship.
Visits take place in senior’s homes on Manhattan’s East and West Sides and in Westchester. Watch our videos to hear from Friendly Visitors:
Time Commitment: Weekly or twice per month with a one-year minimum commitment.
Requirements: Valid US government-issued photo ID, volunteer orientation, an application, interview, references and background check.
DOROT is not currently offering Friendly Visiting for new volunteers. If you are a new volunteer and would like to learn more about current volunteer opportunities, please sign up for an upcoming Volunteer Orientation and Information Session. If you are a current DOROT volunteer and have already attended an orientation session, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
