About response team

Our dedicated Response Team volunteers provide companionship and support based on older adults’ specific requests and interests. Older adults can request help for a variety of tasks: a one-hour visit, a local outing, or assistance with an errand like grocery shopping. Some may seek assistance with practical matters, like organizing paperwork or mail, while others may simply enjoy a social visit to play a card game or take a walk in the park.

 

How It Works

  1. An older adult reaches out to DOROT staff to make a request. We learn more about their needs, including time frame, availability, any skills required, etc.
  2. We share the request with our Response Team volunteers.
  3. Volunteers sign up for opportunities that meet their interest, availability, and skillset, if applicable.
  4. DOROT staff connect the volunteer and older adult.

The Response Team is a by-request program, designed for short-term support and social connection. There’s no limit to how many requests an older adult can make or how many a volunteer can complete. While this service is free, participants are responsible for covering the costs of activities, if any apply.

Please note: Volunteers are not able to assist with medical appointments.
