About the Summer College Internship
DOROT’s Summer College Internship is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social work and nonprofit management while making a real impact on supporting older adults in the community. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our DOROT team, learning from each other and contributing to various programs that impact the aging community.
This is a chance for college students to make a real-world impact while gaining insight into careers in the nonprofit sector—including social services, nonprofit management, or working with older adults. You will learn about social isolation and its impact on older adults and gain practical experience through involvement with DOROT programs and services.
You’ll work alongside DOROT staff, learning both from our professionals and your fellow interns. With a strong history of inspiring future leaders, DOROT provides a hands-on, meaningful internship experience that will give you valuable skills and allow you to make a real difference in the lives of older adults.
DOROT is a place with a special mission and an equally special group of staff. While here, I have learned so much and emerged with a more concrete idea of my future career goals. This has truly been the best summer of my life.
Internship Structure
DOROT summer internships run from late May to early August, lasting for 10 or 11 weeks, depending on your track. As an intern, you will participate four or five days per week in professional development workshops, department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and special events throughout the summer.
Interns are assigned to specific departments, which are confirmed upon acceptance into the program. All positions are hybrid and are geared for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years of undergraduate study. We anticipate being able to offer stipends to all interns and will provide more information about this during the interview stage.
How and When to Apply
DOROT begins reviewing applications and scheduling interviews in the late fall and sends acceptances on a rolling basis beginning in the winter. As part of the process, you must submit an application and have two references submitted on your behalf (you’ll be asked for the references when you submit your application).
Please note: We will post applications for Summer 2026 around Thanksgiving.
More Information
- Acceptance into the program is contingent on passing a background check.
- In order to receive a stipend, you must meet the eligibility requirements.
- As an intern, you need to have use of your own personal laptop computer for each day of the internship (whether working in person or remotely).
Hear from our 2024 summer college interns!
“Wherever I went in, DOROT people were talking to people. That always just made me feel so good, and so much better, and happier. It was just a real wake-up call and such a beautiful reminder of the significance of human connection.”
—Emma, DOROT College Intern
