What will I do?

This summer the DOROT Summer Teen Internship will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual programming. 1-2 days a week programming will take place via Zoom or telephone conference calls. 2-3 days a week will be in-person at the internship site. The first day of each session include an orientation and training. Each week is guided by a theme. We begin the week with group building games and leadership training. Interns end each week with group reflection.

Each intern will have their own schedule of workshops and visits with older adults that may include:

  • Visit with DOROT elders via telephone or video chat
  • Participate in art based projects including Theater, Art, Music, Film Making and Creative Writing.
  • Teach older adults how to use technology
  • Celebrate seniors’ birthdays

  • Read to visually impaired seniors
  • Lead an intergenerational discussion group via teleconference
  • Play chess, Scrabble and other games online with seniors
  • Have the opportunity to design and run a intergenerational discussions and activities.

What expenses are associated with the program?

There is no charge to intern with DOROT. If you are in need of assistance in paying for travel expenses, we can help.

Is there anything I should know about the application process?

We typically receive over 400 applications. Students are encouraged to apply early, as positions will likely fill prior to final deadline. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis beginning in December and ending on June 1, 2022. Interns can only participate in one session each summer. Applicants select a session preference on the application form. All applicants are required to participate in a group interview.

Do I need anything?

Students who are invited to participate as interns and accept the position must have access to a computer, smart phone or tablet with WIFI connectivity and video capability. DOROT will provide program supplies and materials.

What if I can’t commit to the whole internship?

Space in the program is very limited. We require interns to commit to the full 4 weeks, Mon – Thursday, 10 AM – 4:30 PM as well as a closing event on the final Thursday evening. Attendance is only excused for school exams and emergencies.
