Youth & Family Volunteering

Raising young children and looking for easy and exciting ways to volunteer together? DOROT offers unique opportunities for families with children ages 5- 12 to visit the homes of DOROT elders for meaningful intergenerational connections. Onsite Intergenerational Chess and Bar & Bat Mitzvah volunteer opportunities are also ways to share a wonderful gift – the gift of your time and friendship!

GENuine Connections

Teens and older adults meet weekly over Zoom in small groups to talk and participate in activities ranging from creative writing, chess, art, current events and so much more, leading to the discovery of new and shared perspectives. Volunteer today and experience the rewards of intergenerational friendship!

Intergenerational After School Chess (In Person)

Share your love of chess! DOROT’s Intergenerational Chess Program brings middle and high school students together with older adults to learn from and engage with one another. Become part of this meaningful community service program.

Purim Family Visits

Bring cheer and holiday festivities to older adults through virtual visits and delivering mishloach manot, a traditional Purim food package.

Light-One-Night Hanukkah Visits

Looking for a memorable and meaningful way to mark Hanukkah? Create a new tradition by visiting with an older adult in their home on one night of the holiday.

Holiday Package Deliveries for Families

You and your children can share stories and companionship – and a holiday package – to celebrate the season. We match family volunteers with DOROT elders, for visits in their homes in Manhattan and Westchester.

Birthday Visits for Families

Help celebrate the birthday of a senior with a visit by your family. DOROT staff arrange the visits based upon your availability.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah Engagement

Give special meaning to your Bar or Bat Mitzvah experience by volunteering with DOROT. Choose to participate in one of our established programs or design your own chesed (kindness/compassion) project to honor this incredibly exciting and important time – becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah!

Card Making

Birthday, Holiday & Caring Cardmaking

Bring birthday and holiday cheer to DOROT seniors with handmade greeting cards. DOROT sends beautiful birthday cards, designed and created by our volunteers, to each of the nearly 4,000 older adults we work with each year. Your group members can use their artistic skills to benefit older adults in our community.
